1minWeekly Retrospective - Last Week of August, 2026
Time has been moving so fast that it still doesn't quite feel real that August is almost over. A lot happened this past stretch, and just re-adjusting to the changes — big and small — took longer than I expected. I'd been so consumed with my own work and so uninterested in other people that I'm only now catching up, late, on things I'd missed without realizing it. Between the pace of IT and meeting all kinds of people across different environments, I started running into people who misread even small, offhand comments, and staying quiet slowly became my default.
With all that weighing on me, I had a lot of conversations — with books, and with people close to me — about what was actually wrong on my end and what I could do better. I second-guessed myself, wondering if I was just taking something too personally, and spent a lot of days trying to see things from the other person's position and circumstances. In the end I kept landing on the same conclusion: the people who are going to like you will like you no matter what you say, and the people who don't will dislike you even with zero actual contact.
What actually helped, in the end, was simply putting more focus into my own work instead. On the quiet days when I just kept my head down, people started reaching out on their own, almost out of nowhere. Some of them turned out to genuinely like what I do and how I do it, and — even if they're not long-standing relationships — I've been building new ones that feel real.
These days, I feel like I'm finally figuring out what I actually like, what I'm good at, and what I want to get even better at.
I even put together a vision board. I want to build, piece by piece, into the person I want to become, and to be someone who can push through that on my own. There are plenty of days I waver — wondering if this is even the right path, or if I'm just wasting my time on something pointless — but I'm trying to hold steady through those days. Just doing what I can do right now. Glance at the future for a moment, then stay fully present today.
